How to check if a Solana token is a rug
Short answer: paste the contract address into a scanner and check five things: (1) mint authority revoked, (2) freeze authority revoked, (3) liquidity burned or locked, (4) top 10 wallets hold well under 50%, (5) the creator has not mass-launched tokens. Any one failing is a red flag.
The 60-second checklist
- Mint authority: if ON, the creator can print supply and dump it. See mint and freeze authority.
- Freeze authority: if ON, your wallet can be frozen so you can't sell.
- LP: burned is strongest, a time lock is temporary. See LP burn vs lock.
- Top holders: excluding pools, a few wallets holding most of supply can dump on you. See reading top holders.
- Creator history: hundreds of past launches means a token farm. See dev wallet red flags.
Also check
- Bundled launches (what they are)
- Copycat tickers (how to spot them)
- Liquidity under $1K or a 90% drop from peak: the token is effectively dead.
FAQ
How do I check if a Solana token is a rug?
Check that mint and freeze authority are revoked, the LP is burned or locked, the top 10 wallets hold well under 50%, and the creator has not launched many other tokens. GlassDex shows all five for free.
Does a Safe scan mean a token cannot rug?
No. A scan only shows on-chain risks. Holders can still dump and hype can fade. It is just a scan tool, not financial advice.
Is GlassDex free?
Yes, scans on glassdex.io are free.
